At AIG we know that accidents and breakdowns can happen to anyone at any time. That’s why we try to cover the unexpected with extra cover benefits included as standard on our car insurance policies.

Breakdown Assistance Cover 24/7

Breakdown assistance is included on both Third-Party Fire and Theft and Comprehensive policies as standard. We provide 24 hour assistance, 7 days a week; you just need to call us on the number above. Cover will apply in all 32 counties of Ireland, and in England, Scotland and Wales. The package includes:

If your car has broken down at your home, we will send a technician to assist you with up to one hour’s free labour. If the car can’t be repaired on site, we will tow the car to your closest approved garage for repair.

If you’ve been involved in a car accident or if your car has broken down away from your home, we will send a competent mechanic to assist you. You will be entitled to one hour’s free labour and if the car can’t be fixed roadside, we’ll have it towed to the closest garage or, if closer, to your home. You must be with your car when the mechanic arrives, if not and we are unable to help you will need to pay for any other help that you receive in the future.

Punctures are an all too common occurrence on our roads and can be extraordinarily frustrating. But fear not, if you suffer a punctured or flat tyre while driving, we will send a competent repairer to assist you in changing the wheel once you have a suitable spare as replacement.

Lost your keys or locked them in the car? We’ll take your car to the nearest secure location while you’re replacing keys. And if your keys have been stolen, we will cover the replacement of your locks for a cost of up to €500.

In the event of your car shutting down due to running out of petrol, we will transfer your vehicle to the nearest petrol station. If your car shuts down due to the wrong fuel being used, we’ll transfer it to the nearest garage to help you get the issue sorted as promptly as possible.

If the windscreen or windows in your car are damaged we will pay for the cost of repair or replacement and the repair of any resulting scratching to surrounding bodywork. If this is the only damage you are claiming your no claim discount will not be affected. Please note, that in order to claim, the repair does have to be carried out by our approved glass replacement company.

If your car breaks down when you’re more than 30 kilometres from your home and repairs are unable to be carried out at the scene, we’ll pay for:

Alternative transport for you and any passengers to your intended destination; or use of a replacement car for up to 48 hours and transport to collect your car when repairs have been completed; or bed and breakfast accommodation for you and your passengers while you’re waiting for the repairs to be finished. (This cover extends to €35 per person and €150 in total).

If you’re driving in the UK and experience a breakdown where repairs are unable to be carried out at the scene, we’ll give you use of a replacement car for up to 48 hours up to a limit of £100. Or we will tow your car to your chosen port if it can’t be repaired before your departure date, up to a limit of £250.

If your car has been stolen and isn’t found within 24 hours, we’ll provide you with a replacement vehicle for up to five days or until your car is recovered. You must report the theft of your vehicle to AIG and the Gardaí as soon as possible.
