Our Timeline

2010s

2010 saw Dublin become a centre for Global Investment Administration in AIG. And in 2012 the AIG brand name was re-instated as AIG quickly began to progress forward. In 2013 AIG Ireland launched the XLNTdriver telematics product, moved headquarters from AIG House on Merrion Road to the IFSC and launched the sponsorship of all 4 codes of Dublin GAA. Going from strength to strength, in 2015 AIG finalized the acquisition of Laya healthcare, Ireland's second largest health insurer. AIG celebrated the first forty years in Ireland in 2017.

2000s

2003 saw the birth of the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority while we expanded our personal insurance product range. Two years later, in 2005, AIG launched its massive sponsorship of Manchester United Football Club however as the Global markets went into crisis in 2008, AIG Ireland was renamed to Chartis Insurance Ireland Ltd the following year.

In 1991 AIG House is opened on Merrion Road in Dublin and within two years AIICO Ireland is changed into AIG Europe S.A.. To celebrate the brand shift to the global name and to increase local awareness, AIG sponsors the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle. In 1995 Seán Hehir, Managing Director of AIG begins serving as President of the Irish Insurance Federation while AIG prepare extensively to meet the demands of Y2K and launching the sponsorship of the Golfing Union of Ireland.

1980s

By the early 80s the EEC accounted for nearly 30% of the world insurance market while Irish roads were littered with 70,000 uninsured vehicles. In 1983 as Car Insurance Discs were introduced the AIICO Ireland employee count had grown to 54 while 8,500 people were employed in insurance within Ireland. With the establishment of the Irish Financial Services Centre in Dublin's Docklands in 1987, AIG setup three financial and insurance companies there while retaining AIICO as its core business body by the end of the decade.

As Ireland joins the European Economic Community (EEC) in the early 70s and establishes new directives, then Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave opens new AIG office in Ireland under the American International Insurance Company of Ireland (AIICO) in 1977. By 1979, AIICO Ireland had reached their £1m in gross premium and sponsored a member of the UCD Soccer team.
